Mr Mike Baxter has been appointed headteacher from the beginning of the autumn term succeeding the interim head Mike Thorne who had led the school during the previous academic year.
Mr Baxter, who is originally from Wiltshire, returns home after serving as Principal of the City of London Academy in Southwark since 2019. Since starting in September Mr Baxter has met students, staff, parents, governors, former pupils and supporters.
He said he was impressed by the teaching staff’s expertise, dedication and enthusiasm. He plans to build on the school’s strengths while listening to the wider school community. He said he wants to continue the ‘school’s tradition of preparing well-rounded young people for life beyond the classroom.’
Commenting on his appointment, Mike said, ‘I feel incredibly privileged to have been appointed headmaster of one of the country’s leading state grammar schools. There is so much to admire here: our exceptional students, dedicated staff, strong traditions and the ambition that runs throughout the school.’
