LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT 2025
Dear Old Wordsworthian,
Another quiet year supporting the School in every way that we can. We continue to pay the rent for the plotter, which produces large posters etc. We continue to support students who wish to visit universities. We give prizes to the School on Speech Day and many smaller grants.
We sadly lost Stephen Quigley from the committee this year. He has set us up with a new web site for any news of OW’s and news from the School. This had not been done for some twelve years so was very much in need of updating and is now connected to the School site as well. Thank you Stephen for all your efforts.
It has been a very busy year for the School as well. We were saying farewell to the Headmaster, Stuart Smallwood in July and then welcoming Mathew Morgan in September. This did not work out as, in early December, Mathew resigned. As a safe pair of hands, Stuart Smallwood returned at the helm, to steer the School for the next two terms. The next Headmaster will be appointed for this September.
We also look back with fond memories, or otherwise! on the buildings at the back of Bishopgate. Richard Cusden trying to coax art out of us and Austen Underwood trying to teach us to make something out of a sheet of metal between political issues! A new planning application has been submitted to demolish all the old sheds and build a new three-storey classroom block with relevant facilities. We shall see.
We welcomed 12 OW”s to the Carol Service in early December. It was, as usual, a lovely service and to have an enjoyable chat with old friends afterwards, despite the cold weather.
I look forward to welcoming you to Founders Day at 11:30 on Friday April 4 in the Cathedral. This will be followed by the AGM and lunch, not at the school but at the Chapterhouse restaurant, opposite St Ann Street Gate, 9-13 St John's Street, Salisbury SP1 2SB.
Please advise our Secretary, Mike Way, at mike41@gmail.com if you plan to attend the cathedral service, the AGM, the lunch.
